The name of the book is a little bit misleading. Sure the variance analysis is also covered but the book does not begin with it. It is a thorough and easy to read book about product costing in SAP.

Stephan Kaleske: SAP Query Reporting–Practical Guide

SAP Query is still a useful tool especially for ad-hoc reporting. Also some of SAP’s own reports are made with SAP Query. This book offers step-by-step instructions for using Quickviewer and SAP Query with many practical examples. A good book, if you already have some prior experience of SAP QUery.

SAP ERP is a highly integrated system. Various business processes generate automatic postings in accounting and controlling. The quality of the postings depends very much on the configuration of automatic account determination. It is very important to understand how they work. I remember well my first encounter with MM and SD account determinations. And the expectations that I should configure them. I would have loved to have this book to help me.
At first sight SAP automatic account determination is a jungle of confusing settings without any apparent logic. Manish divides them into three techniques (transaction key techniques, symbolic account techniques and condition techniques). Very useful are the transactions and tables at the end of each chapter.
Altogether an excellent FI-book. However, in SAP the FI and CO go hand in hand. This book concentrates on the automatic account determination. It only briefly mentions the CO account assignments. Yet, in every SAP implementation you must decide, which accounts are revenue or cost elements. And what are the consequences for these decisions. Also the role of profit center in postings is unclear to many consultants.
The chapters about sales, purchasing and inventory transactions would have benefited of the controlling aspects.
Who should buy this book: everyone who wants to understand how the posting flow to general ledger.
This second edition book has changed size. I actually liked more the SAP Essentials A4 form with large print and big images. For this new book I need glasses. Should have chosen an e-book.
